Future Ancestry: Short Film Screening „The Machine Dialogs" and Performance

12 Sep | Curated by Eli Cortiñas followed by a live animation performance by Kristy Nataraja

Offered languages: English

Overview

The program includes a selection of video works titled "Machine Dialogues," curated by multimedia artist Eli Cortiñas ("The Machine Monologs, Part I: The Storm" exhibition), with works by Patricia Dominguez, Santiago Mostyn, Will Fredo, and others. The screening program explores how gaze and technology create and perpetuate "othering." With more images now produced and viewed by machines than by humans, the videos screened aim at questioning biases embedded in the Western-centric gaze. Diverse artists present new perspectives on what this machine-driven way of looking at the world can offer.

Following the screening, acclaimed animation performer Kristy Nataraja will take the stage as a ‘human avatar’. Specializing in animation movement, ancient dance forms, rituals and improvisation, Kristy Nataraja's performance promises a mesmerizing live embodiment of digitalized ancient storytelling. Her unique approach blends traditional techniques with contemporary animation dance.

The program "Future Ancestry" at Fotografiska, happening between September 11th and September 12th, 2024, as part of Berlin Art Week, explores the connections between bodies, verses, and technology across time.
