Tacheles: A Berlin Story – Film Screening
12 Sept | By Andy Cohen, on Open Monuments Day
Overview
After the Berlin Wall fell, the abandoned ruins of Tacheles blossomed into one of Europe's most legendary independent art centres, where artists from around the world built a unique community dedicated to artistic freedom and experimentation.
Following a chance encounter with Dutch artist Tim Roeloffs stealing a bicycle in 2001, filmmaker Andy Cohen spent twenty-five years documenting the rise and fall of this extraordinary place. His film chronicles the artists' struggle to preserve their creative sanctuary as Berlin developers seek to evict them and gentrify Mitte, the historic heart of the city.
Join us at Fotografiska on Open Monuments Day for this special screening followed by a conversation with filmmaker Andy Cohen. The conversation will be moderated by Paul Hockenos.
