Unlocking Symbolism in Art
21 Jul | with Matthew Wilson
Overview
This Lecture offers a deep dive into the language of symbolism in visual art. We begin by exploring how artists use signs, archetypes, and metaphors to convey meaning beyond the visible. A short exercise invites you to interpret the symbolism in a selected artwork and develop a more intuitive visual understanding.
Building on this foundation, we then turn to our current exhibitions — featuring works by Toiletpaper, Šejla Kamerić, and Cooper & Gorfer. Together, we unpack the visual codes in their art, looking at how symbolism shapes narratives around identity, memory, and imagination.
This event includes access to all exhibitions, giving you the chance to explore the artworks.
