Overview

In this 3-hour intensive masterclass, internationally acclaimed AI pioneer Boris Eldagsen shows you how to generate images from existing visuals, focusing on Midjourney and OpenAI’s image generator. Using material from the ToiletFotoPaperGrafiska exhibition, you experiment with blending, image/omni/structure references, face swaps, and explore the creative potential of inpainting, outpainting, and remix. Play with style references and presets to create a consistent aesthetic. It’s a fast-paced, hands-on session full of discovery, experimentation, and fun in the world of AI image-making.

Minimum requirement: Smartphone & Zoom 
Optional but recommended: Laptop and Midjourney account

Boris Eldagsen

Boris Eldagsen (*1970, based in Berlin) is considered one of the leading experts on AI-generated imagery. He studied photography, fine art, conceptual art, and philosophy in Europe and India, and has been exhibiting his photomedia work internationally since 2000. He also teaches and leads workshops around the world. In 2023, Eldagsen sparked international headlines when he declined the prestigious Sony World Photo Award—because the nominated image had been created using AI. His decision ignited a global debate about the role of artificial intelligence in photography.

He is a member of DFA and DGPh, and co-founder of the AI working group within the German Photographic Council. His image PSEUDOMNESIA | The Electrician became known as “the photo that stopped the world.”
